La La Land a movie so good it almost won Best Picture. And we love it. But it's definitely got sins, as all movies do. So we did our thing. Next week:
In La La Land, Chazelle chose to sharpen the clash between love and ambition. He does so in three ways: He does so in three ways: By making the choice to leave love behind the woman’s choice, rather than the man’s, brilliantly (in the commercial sense) situating the film among the emerging and popular female empowerment dramas in which
Basically, I was pretty pumped. And oh, how wrong I was. La La Land sounds like a musical lover's dream. Starring the genius Emma Stone and the dreamy Ryan Gosling, and Oscar-tipped way before its I think you're deliberately missing the point that was being made. They aren't complaining that everyone isn't represented, they're complaining that roles that would have made more sense as people of color were instead white. I'm not sure that qualifies as racist as much as clueless. 1. [deleted]
La La Land presents these arguments in the form of Keith, the fusion artist played by John Legend in the film. Though his words sound reasonable — he asks Sebastian how he’s going to
Excellent post. I've never gone back to watch La La Land again because I was too sad and frustrated at the ending. The end of their relationship wasn't earned and justified in how it played out, they should have stayed together. I didn't need that cynical ending, it should have had the Hollywood ending that's schlocky and sweet.
They don't follow the typical 'chance-meeting, instant-spark, blissful-time-together, one-person-fucks-up, seemingly-inconsolable-differences, grand-gesture' plot line that most every other movie does. It is a simple tell-tale of Hollywood dreams and how they come in between a person's romantic life, but does so with a slash of music and a dash of drama.

LaLa Land was an Oscar and award mobile from the start, meaning before the screenplay was even written. It would’ve never been made without a celebrity attached. Then again, I spent eight years chasing the dream of being a talented unknown actress who signed onto a big film, so I’m a bit biased. Welcome to our Colossus Movie Guide for La La Land. SPOILER: What a weird ending! I definitely cared way more about the second couple's relationship toward the end. So cute! And I honestly fast- forwarded through a lot of the last 2 episodes. It didn't make a lot of sense and I had a bad feeling about how it was going to end. But the ending was fine. Just super weird that they didn't show his face.
The Graduate. I'm around the age of Benjamin's character and recent rewatches of this film have been hitting me extra hard, particularly that famous ending shot of him and Elaine on the back of the bus. Their happy faces in the excitement of great youthful impulse slowly turning to the sad realization that they don't feel any less empty--despite their great act of rebellion agai La La Land trailer: Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone star in musical movie Guardian. This ending feels bittersweet and unexpected, but La La Land's opening number subtly foreshadows the film's final scene, as noticed by u/youvebeenshyamalaned on Reddit. Related: Emma Stone's Best
